TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A beloved silly old bear is set to take the stage at Straz Center this week for the Patel Conservatory production of Winnie the Pooh, KIDS!
Since February, dozens of students have been rehearsing for the musical, which will be presented Thursday at the TECO theater in the Straz Center.
Winnie the Pooh, KIDS! will feature several songs and characters, like Piglet and Tigger, from Disney’s 2011 animated film. In the Patel Conservatory production of the musical, Pooh and his friends embark on an important mission to save Christopher Robin from a creature named The Backson.
This musical is just one of seven theatrical productions offered by the Patel Conservatory throughout the year.
The makers said the program is a great way for parents to get their kids involved in theatre.
“It’s a great way to learn collaboration, empathy and improvisation,” said Matthew Belopavlovich, artistic director of the Patel Conservatory Theater Department.
Registration for summer camps and program courses is open until April 4. You can register through their website.
“We’ve had a lot of improvisation over the past two years with everything that’s happened. It’s a great training ground for that and, of course, for the arts,” Belopavlovich said.
The Patel Conservatory production of Winnie the Pooh, KIDS! operates Thursday through Sunday. You can buy tickets on the Straz Center website.
