MilDef establishes its first production plant outside of Sweden, at the historic RAF airbase in Wales

MilDef opened a manufacturing plant in the Bro Tathan Business Park near Cardiff, Wales. The new factory manufactures MilDef’s tactical computing platform for the £25m RBSL contract won in 2020, as well as the provision of a non-European platform for global sales of MilDef’s some products.

The official inauguration of the UK installation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023 with the participation of representatives from MilDefMembers of Parliament and the Welsh Government. The new production and office building comprises approximately 500 square meters where the production of MilDefTactical computing technology has now kicked off. Primarily, the facility will perform the ten-year contract with Rheinmetall BAE Systems for computers, servers and switches for the Mechanized Infantry Vehicle (MIV) program.

Expansion UK will also be used in international trade agreements with former Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealandand Canada. Initially, six new full-time jobs will be created in connection with this new footprint.

MilDefthe new installation of is near Cardiff International Airport, speeding up the supply chain and delivery. Historically, the airport has played an important role in aircraft maintenance and training since the airfield officially opened in 1938. After the end of World War II, the base St. Athan remained an important technical training center for the RAF. The Welsh Government has now transferred the airfield to civilian hands.
