Mesut Özil has flown to Turkey to complete his move to Fenerbahce, ending his nearly eight-year spell at Arsenal. His contract with the north London club runs until the end of the season, but they have reached an agreement on the £7m still owed so that he can join Fenerbahce on a free transfer. Özil, 32, is understood to have forfeited a portion of what is owed to him.
The midfielder, a former German international of Turkish descent, has said he followed the club as a child. Özil is the first and highest profile of a series of fringe players that Mikel Arteta would like the club to get rid of during the January window.
