Bokaro’s trade organization seeks government help to revive industry

Chamber of Commerce suggested select committee to look into unemployment and production issues

The Bokaro Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked for help from the Union’s Minister of Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan, to revive several industrial units that have been affected by the blockages induced by Covid.

The chamber sent a letter to the minister informing him of the poor condition of the industrial units located in Bokaro.

Even though industrial units, the majority of which depend on the Bokaro steel plant, have been exempted from containment restrictions, their production and sales have been severely affected. Manufacturers said they were going through a very bad phase and needed government intervention.

House Speaker Sanjay Baid said that without full resources, unavailability of oxygen, shortage of raw materials, working with 50% labor, unavailability of transportation, etc., local industry was working and was producing under unfavorable conditions. For this reason, the ordered goods could not be delivered on time.

“We have asked the Union Minister of Steel to ensure that public sector companies (PSUs) issue a new purchase order to units, which have not been able to deliver the goods ordered during the Corona period, as well as the deduction of late charges on goods supplied by such units, ”Baid said.

Another industrialist from Bokaro, Sidharth Parakh, said: “The Covid has broken the backbone of industry and commerce, resulting in unemployment and poverty. The government can turn this challenge into an opportunity. Economic reform can boost this industry.

The chamber suggested that a central committee be formed by the purchasing department of BSL, a Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) unit, which should work for guidance and remediation of difficulties and problems encountered by these units. Baid added that SAIL should play an important role in the Prime Minister’s efforts to promote “Vocal for Local”.

BSL is expected to supply its secondary products as a priority to industries operating locally for 30-35 years in the district, taking huge loans from banks and providing huge jobs. It will give industries a boost here.
