Amazon Studios Defines Inclusion Policy and Manual for Content and Productions – Deadline



Amazon Studios on Wednesday unveiled a division-wide policy that outlines its commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity for its content and productions, as well as a “playbook” that includes guidelines for its collaborators in the creative community.

The policy covers four main areas that offer concrete recommendations for continuing to seek storytelling that amplifies diverse voices in all aspects of the production process: story and character development, hiring and production, reporting and documentation, and achieving goals. Goals.

The policy includes specific objectives for productions based on Amazon Studios, including:

  • Every movie or series with a creative team of three or more people in over the line roles (directors, writers, producers) should ideally include at least 30% female and 30% members of a racial / ethnic group. underrepresented. This ambitious target will increase to 50% by 2024.
  • Cast actors whose identity (sex, gender identity, nationality, race / ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability) matches the character they will play.
  • Aim to include one character from each of the following categories in speaking roles, with at least 50% of them being female: LGBTQIA +, person with a disability, and three regionally under-represented racial / ethnic / cultural groups. The same character can fill one or more of these identities.
  • Look for at least three offers from sellers or suppliers on productions, one of which must be from a woman-owned business and the other from a minority-owned business.
  • Pay equity across the cast, behind the staff and crew, and for salespeople and suppliers.
